Grants
The Foundation awards grants for scientific research. The Foundation funds PhD theses, other theses and separate research projects. Occasionally, also e.g. review articles associated to the topic of the grant call can be funded.
The grant call is open during August. Please fill in the Foundation's application form and submit it with appropriate appendices on 31.8. at the latest by email to the authorised representative, Anu Turpeinen (address anu.turpeinen@valio.fi) or by mail to the following address: Foundation for Nutrition Research, c/o Valio, PL 30, 00039 Valio.
The call is announced on these web pages and the Aurora funding database.
Decisions on grants are made in October and applicants are personally informed about the decision.
A.I. Virtanen prize
The Foundation for Nutrition Research awards the A.I. Virtanen prize together with the Finnish Chemists' Society and Societas Biochemica, Biophysica et Microbiologica Fenniae (Biobio society) to commemorate the legacy of the prestigious scientist and the only Finnish science Nobel prize winner, Artturi Ilmari Virtanen. The prize can be given to a Finnish or foreign scientist with significant achievements and groundbreaking research in a field represented by the aforementioned societies.
The prize is awarded biannually and special attention is paid that the nominee is still active and menestyksekästä työtä tekevä scientist, broadminded, interdisciplinary and uusien ongelmien ratkaisemiseen paneutuva.
The prize consists of a silver medal designed by sculptor Aimo Tukiainen, a grant and a diploma.

Scientific seminars
The Foundation organizes scientific seminars on current, scientifically interesting topics. Seminars have focused e.g. on the following topics:
